Aurelia + Icarus strives to be a socially conscious and sustainable business.  We recycle, we reuse, we compost and reduce what we consume.  However, it just wasn't enough.

What we couldn't control was the ubiquitous amounts of throw away plastic from society's supply chain.  Not only is it everywhere, new research shows we are now ingesting tiny plastic particles: it's in our sea life, and even babies are born with plastic particles already in them!  By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish!  A scary reality!

The Aurelia + Icarus jewelry and accessories brand was created because we want to make women feel good about themselves without harming the planet.

Nothing is perfect, but here's how we try:

1.  Our packaging contains ZERO plastic.  Our shipping boxes, packing tape, marketing materials and packing paper are recyclable and compostable and our jewelry is capsuled in simple yet stylish velvet lined cardboard gift boxes that are meant to be reused.

2.  Only small batches are produced for each collection in a bid against fast fashion and reduce excess waste.  Any residual materials are reused to create new pieces or are recycled.

3.  Pieces are stringently quality checked and created to last, because the best way to be a conscious consumer is to ultimately consume less.  We enclose helpful tips on how to prolong the life of our jewelry.  Hello slow fashion!  

4.  Carbon emissions are offset by investing in sustainable reforestation projects to make our climate safe for our near future:  For every purchase, we plant one tree through our reforestation partner.

Why are trees important to the environment?

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity.  Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
